 Wrinkle Reduction / Botox

Wrinkles and lines appear on our face as we age due to repeated muscle movements.

What is Botox®?facial-aesthetic-surgery-300x250
Botulinum toxin is a purified bacterial substance that blocks muscle nerve signals and is available as Botox®. Injecting small quantities temporarily relaxes the muscles preventing the formation of new wrinkles and softening any existing lines. The Botox® anti-wrinkle treatment can smooth out age-related wrinkles such as crows feet, frown lines or lines on the forehead.

Treatment
The muscle relaxant is injected directly into the muscle that is producing the wrinkle. A process that generally takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Aftercare
Once you have had the treatment you can return to your normal activities but should avoid bending for about four hours.

Results
The full effects of treatment develop slowly over about 2 weeks Results may vary and occasionally a second dose is needed at this stage to gain the desired effect. The benefits usually last from 3 to 4 months.

To retain the desired effect further treatments are needed, usually three or four in the first year but, as the change becomes more permanent, booster injections may only be needed twice in the second year.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?
Collagen which supports the skin is lost as part of the aging process of the skin. Dermal fillers are used to replace this lost support and create the volume to lift the skin and remove the crevices that have appeared.

They are especially effective in restoring the area around the mouth and forehead. They can also be used to increase the fullness of the lips.

Dermal fillers can be short, medium or long lasting.

The preferred products are the short or medium lasting ones which are biodegradable and usually need to be refreshed every six months.

Short and medium lasting Dermal Fillers include Hydrofil, Juvederm and Restylane.

Treatment
A mild topical anaesthetic cream is usually applied to the area 30 minutes before treatment or a dental anaesthetic can be given.

The treatment session lasts 30 to 45 minutes when the dermal filler is injected directly into the skin with a very fine needle

Aftercare
A little redness may develop around the treatment area but this clears in a few hours and can covered by make-up during this time so you can resume normal activities straight away.
